Background

We have been doing IT for a long time; we were there pretty much at the start of things when we founded an IT Consultancy (Nice Computer People) in 1987. We've been Signal Mountain Ltd Since 2002. We still enjoy IT immensely, and we've lost none of our passion for what IT can do for organisations like yours.

We hope you will quickly appreciate our crystal-clear, uncomplicated, realistic approach to managing and getting the benefits of Infromaton Technology. I'm not talking just of the 'ROI, maximum efficiency, competitive advantage'  business benefits here. IT has changed the world in ways that affect human social development, economics, entertainment and art because technology, fundamentally is about people.

My favorate definition of IT is from an OU course I did in 1986;

'Information technology is the use of electronic equipment, software, and printed material by people in organisations to process data.'

The reason I like it is that you can read it backwards and get a prioritised list of the underlying reasons why IT is often more difficult than it should be. In my long, long, experience, the things that break IT projects and make IT hard to do are;

1. Organisations (Lots of people and lots of opinions!)
2. People (individuals with opinions)
3. Software (Written by creative people...with opinions)
4. Electronic Equipment (Computers and networks, installed and configured by people with opinions)
 
Starting by understanding and troubleshooting people rather than getting fixated on the technology is why we're different. The lure of having some  technology to troubleshoot as well is what gets us out of bed in the morning.
